Abstract
The article details the life of William Cruikshank. Cruikshank moved to Canada from Scotland in 1857, the article discusses his studies, his first exhibits at the Royal Academy and Dudley Gallery, his decision to focus on illustration, working with the Ontario Government, his depictions of Canadian life, the Royal Canadian Academy, being an instructor at the Ontario School of Art/Ontario College of Art (OCAD), the Ontario Society of Artists, and his passing in 1922. This article was partly written for the prospectus of Ontario School of Art.
