Abstract

Patients’ medical decision-making represents a critical inflection point within healthcare systems. To help contextualise this deliberative process, clinicians, medical centres, and other researchers produce material artefacts—known as decision aids—that serve to shape outcomes in the system. This presentation will summarise findings from an analysis of the Cochrane Inventory and Mayo Clinic archive of decision aids and extrapolates two models: a model of the complexity of systems that surround clinician and patient at various points in the medical system and a model of the clinician< >patient conversation, as depicted in the decision aids themselves.
