Abstract
How can we learn from successful local initiatives to foster new solutions elsewhere, and further, how can we impart the process of inclusive respectful community engagement and a foundation of design pedagogy?
The Participatory Action Research project is compiling stories of grassroots placemaking through creative practices a way to support, and learn from community actions. The storysharing forums held across Toronto’s six boroughs use narrative inquiry as a qualitative method for data collection.
Partnering with design justice expert Bryan C. Lee Jr. from colloqate.org in New Orleans, DM2020 ran a Creative
Practice as Protest workshop held in January, 2020. Youth worked with community leaders and design mentors as a way
to tackle issues of community, place, and equity and to simultaneously empower the next generation of change makers.
